    Always wanted to try kayaking? - sounds kinda neat? This course is designed specifically for the total beginner. Our instructors will give you the basic tools necessary to learn kayaking the easy way. We want you to enjoy it so much that you will sign up for another trip and tell your friends.

    Basic Instruction

    1 1/2 hours basicinstruction:

    •   - How to stretch your muscles for kayaking
    •   - How to properly sit in a kayak
    •   - How to hold your paddle along with proper paddling techniques
    •   - Rules of the waterways
    •   - What to do if you fall out
    •   - Plus many more little things that no one ever tells you

    Sign up early because space is limited to 6 people

    Blue Moon Outdoor Center instructors are ACA or BCU certified instructors that have been trained in how to teach you kayaking. We work at your pace. Classes taught in the waters around Oleta river State Park. Lessons are taught in a sit on top style kayak on calm waters. Sit in cockpit style kayak available by request only.

    • KAYAKING FOR BEGINNERS I – This is a great intro for the first timer wanting to become an informed paddler or someone that wants more from their kayaking experiences. Our instructors will “hand hold you” until kayaking becomes natural for you. Getting to know your equipment, safety rules, essential strokes, and how to prevent tipping over will be covered in this 2 hour class. After this class we hope you will catch the bug for kayaking! You will also receive a Quickstart ACA participation card. www.acanet.org

    Rating: Easy

    Class Duration: 2 hours

    Class Size: 6-7 participants per instructor in group
    1-2 participants in private class

    • INTRO TO KAYAKING II - Refine your essential strokes, forward, backwards and moving sideways. Learn low bracing techniques, practice wet exits with assisted and self rescues. Your instructor will help you with properly fitting you in the boat and using a spray skirt. Discussion on the history of kayaking and where the sport is going today. Includes workbook and video review.

    Rating: Good class for those comfortable around water and ready to get serious about your paddling skills. Prior instruction required.

    Class Duration: 4 hours

    Class Size: 4 participants only

    • ADVANCED CLASS III - ROLLING CLASS

    Learn stern rudder, bow rudder, edging your kayak for direction, low brace turns, and more extended paddling techniques. Practice assisted and self rescues. Sculling for support. Rolling techniques are introduced.

    Rating: Prior kayak instruction required. Must use a cockpit kayak with skirt.

    REFRESHER CLASSES

    Need some one on one to brush up on the skills learned in the classes? Spend 1 hour or 2 hours going out on a paddle trip and learn at the same time. Paddle with our master paddlers and/or American Canoe Association Instructor.
